Effective 8 September 2026. Musketeers, South Africa · hello@musketeers.io
Simple Backend is provided by Musketeers, a company in South Africa. By opening an account or using the service you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.
Simple Backend hosts functions and static pages you write, in workspaces, at addresses we provide or at a domain you bring. What a workspace can do, and the limits on it — timeouts, rate limits, sizes — are described in the documentation and may change. We may add, change, limit or withdraw any feature at any time.
The service is provided as is and as available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted or error-free operation, or the preservation of any data. Nothing here is a service level commitment.
You must be at least 18 and able to enter a contract. You are responsible for everything done through your account and your API keys, whether or not you authorised it, and for keeping them secret. We may require you to prove who you are before acting on a request about an account.
You keep ownership of the code you write and the data your functions store. You grant us the rights we need to host, run, copy, back up and transmit it in order to provide the service, to enforce these terms, to keep the platform secure, and to comply with the law. We do not sell your content. You are solely responsible for it — for having the right to use it, for what your functions do with it, and for the people and data your workspaces serve. You are responsible for keeping your own copies; the console can export your source, and you should use it.
You may not use the service to break any law; to send unsolicited messages; to infringe anyone's rights; to store or serve unlawful, harmful or infringing material; to attack, probe or overload any system, including ours; to reach another workspace's data; to escape or interfere with the sandbox; to circumvent limits or billing; or to resell or offer the service as your own. We may suspend or remove anything that we believe breaches this, without notice, and we decide what counts.
Paid items are sold by Paddle, our merchant of record, under Paddle's terms as presented at checkout. Prices are in US dollars, exclusive of tax, and may change; a changed price applies from your next renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You may cancel at any time from the console; cancellation takes effect at the end of the period already paid for and no part of it is refunded unless the refund policy or the law says otherwise.
If a payment fails or a subscription lapses, we may suspend or withdraw what it paid for — a workspace stops serving and may be deleted after a period we choose; a custom domain stops being served. We are not responsible for anything that follows from a lapse, including a site going offline.
We may suspend or close an account or a workspace at any time, with or without notice, if we believe these terms have been breached, if the account presents a risk to the platform or to others, if required by law, or if we withdraw the service. We will try to give notice where it is practical to do so. You may close your account at any time by deleting your workspaces. After closure or deletion we may delete your content without further notice, subject to backups that expire on their own schedule.
To the fullest extent the law allows: we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for lost profits, revenue, data, goodwill or business, however caused; and our total liability to you for anything arising out of the service in any twelve-month period is limited to the amount you paid us in that period — which, for a free workspace, is nothing. You will indemnify us against claims, losses and costs arising from your content, your use of the service, or your breach of these terms.
We may change these terms. The current version is at this address with its effective date; continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it. Where a change materially reduces what you have paid for, you may cancel and the refund policy applies.
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and the courts of South Africa have jurisdiction. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable the rest remains in force. Nothing here excludes a right the law gives you that cannot be excluded by agreement.
